Vivid Voltage (2020)

Vivid Voltage is the fourth Sword & Shield expansion, released in 2020, and one card keeps it in circulation: the rainbow rare Pikachu VMAX. The oversized, chunky Pikachu became the card everyone wanted out of the set and it has never really let go of that status. The expansion is also where Amazing Rares appeared — a rarity that scattered multi-coloured energy through the artwork and was reserved for Legendary and Mythical Pokémon.

How people buy this set

Booster boxes and single packs are here for opening, along with the Alakazam V and Galarian Rapidash V boxes. The V boxes are the low-commitment way into an older expansion, each built around one named card with a small number of packs attached. A sealed booster box of a 2020 set is increasingly bought to keep rather than to open, so it is worth deciding which of the two you are doing before you order.

Single packs are the cheapest way to feel out a set this age. They will not complete a list, but they scratch the itch.
