Perfect fit sleeves, also sold as inner or exact fit sleeves, are the thin clear sleeves that go straight onto a card before it goes into a normal outer sleeve. That combination is called double sleeving, and it is what most players and collectors use on cards worth protecting properly. The inner sleeve keeps dust and moisture off the card, while the outer takes the wear from shuffling and handling.
Toploading inner sleeves are inserted from the top of the card. When double sleeving, the inner sleeve is usually turned so its opening faces the closed end of the outer sleeve, which keeps the card fully enclosed. Perfect fit sleeves are cut tight to the card, so a double sleeved deck still fits a standard deck box.
